France is located in the western part of Europe. It is not a very large country land wise. Its about the size of Texas It has a very large population for its size. Its about 64 million people. The official language is French. France has several states that they occupy. The political system of France is a republic and has a bicameral legislature. The executive branch has a President and a Prime Minister. Due to the recent war a lot of the french people do not like the Americans. the reason behind this is because after WWII the countries of the world created the United Nations, in hope to prevent a country with the power and money to do as they please. The United States though has gone against this which has made several countries not like the U.S., and France was one of them. According to Wikipedia "The French armed forces are divided into four branches: Armée de Terre (Army), Marine Nationale (Navy), Armée de l'Air (Air Force), Gendarmerie Nationale (A military force which acts as a National Rural Police and as a Military police for the entire French military)." France is also know for its fashion, its food and landmarks. For example Paris is huge with fashion as well as the Effie tower. They also have the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre. Their national holiday is July 14 which is known as Basilius day. This day is know for the start of the French revolution. The last king and Queen of France were dethroned and punished for the cruelty and for their controlling ways. They were taken from their thrown punished and then beheaded. Wikipedia states that Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette were beheaded. They would be considered the last king and queen of France.
In preparation for this interview I came up with ten questions, but after we had everybody’s questions I used some of those to help revise my questions.By doing this is gave me the best questions that I feel would be very effective during the interview. The questions ranged from political to personal to cultural. The next thing I did in preparation was to come up with some objectives that would assist me in having a successful interview. After some revision of the objectives from some people in class that helped make them better. Then I set out to look for my candidates. After locating them I have been keeping in touch with emails, and text. Then I started to do some research on their counties to help find out if there is anything that I should ask or not.Next we both agreed on lunch where we sat and ate and got to know each other a little bit.I got some of the info there but looked as that as more of a general info time.
So how I went about finding people for the interviews was that I went to Lawrence Hall, and went around looking for international students. That proved harder then it sound.I had spent about thirty minutes and had only found one.Luckily I met a student that lived there and was all for helping me find some students. So he took me around and helped me find people by just knocking on their doors. So with the help of him I found 2 more interviewees. The surprising part was that they were very willing and excited to help with it.After doing this I had all their email, so I could email to confirm them. After emailing them the first time I have been keeping in touch with them just to keep up to date with when they will be available.
When and where I conducted my interview was kind of in two places. We started with lunch in the Valhalla in Atwood, a place where I have never even heard of.I soon found out why I had never heard of it, he explained to me that this was “SCSU’s best kept secret.”This was like a fine dining buffet that really only the faculty and a certain select of students. After a very long lunch where we talked the whole time, we went searching for a place that was a little quieter. We eventually headed back to Laurence Hall, where I conducted the rest of the interview. What was really nice was we were not rushed at all neither of us had to run off to a class. We started at noon and by the time I had finished interviewing him it was almost three, so we had a pretty good time.
I interview a student who was from two countries. He was born in Gabon but left at the age of one. Then the next eleven years of his life he lived in France. Then he went back to Gabon till he graduated, but then decided to com study in America. He has been in the U.S. for five years, and has studied here at SCSU for four and a half years. He is the dispatch Sergeant for Public Safety. He is a Biochemist major, and in the future he wants to go to medical school, where he wants to help fight AIDS.
The interview process was amazing. The interview was so calm and chill. It was like we were just having a normal conversation.Well the interview started at lunch where it was just basic knowledge. We started to just get to know each other. Our general conversations got us on the topic of what he did for work and that he was in fact just working with my cousin the night before. It was really neat how we could tie ourselves to each other. That had to be the longest lunch I have ever had.We talked the whole time. This was just amazing I don’t think I have ever talked to anyone that long about nothing. We just discussed random things, and he would tell me lots of random, but interesting facts.I was so impressed with how smart he was.He actually gave me a little mini physics lesson, which later he told me he was proud of because there was a physics professor right behind him agreeing with him.Another thing that was just astonishing was how much he has done in his life already, like he was the first SCSU student to have an internship with the U.N.That is a huge accomplishment.During the internship he got to go to Egypt and study various things. Finally I got to interview him, and he had so much info to tell me.What is going to make this interview different from everyone else is that he was from two countries. He lives his live equally in both countries, so he has the experience of different cultures. What also surprised me is for every questions he gave me two answers one from each country. It wasn’t like a short response for any of them; he went in depth on everything.I also liked how he made it a discussion.I would ask him a question and he would answer and then talk to me about it.I also liked how at the end I asked him if he had any questions for me and he did he asked about what I planned on learning from this class. He also knows who Professor Specht-Jarvis is and how he teaches. That I think helped him in answering the questions. The last thing that just finishes off the interview was that he told me to add him on face book and he wants to do like a follow up on the interview to see how things went.So over all this was a great experience and if all my interviews go as well as this one did it should be a very easy and fun process.
